Delete Your Account

You can permanently delete your BorderFlo Account and the personal data associated with it at any time, in line with your rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

Before You Delete

To make deletion go smoothly:

  • withdraw any available Balance to a Nigerian bank account in your name;
  • wait for any pending Transactions to complete; and
  • download any Proof of Payment Certificates you may need, as they are no longer available once the Account is closed.

An Account cannot be deleted while a Transaction is pending or a compliance review or hold is open.

Delete From the App

  1. Open the BorderFlo app and sign in.
  2. Go to Profile (or Settings) and select Account.
  3. Choose Delete Account.
  4. Confirm your identity using your transaction PIN or a one-time code sent to your registered phone or email.
  5. Confirm the deletion.

Deletion takes effect immediately, subject to the retention rules below.

Request Deletion by Email

If you cannot sign in, email privacy@borderflo.com from your registered email address with the subject "Account deletion request". Include your full legal name and registered phone number so we can verify your identity before we act.

We may ask you to complete an identity check—which may involve verification against your Bank Verification Number (BVN) or National Identification Number (NIN)—so that no one else can delete your Account.

What Gets Deleted

Once your request is verified and any pending Transactions or compliance holds are resolved, we delete the personal data that is no longer needed. This includes your Account profile, contact details, login and authentication data, device and notification tokens, and marketing preferences.

What We Must Keep

Some records must be kept after your Account closes, because Nigerian law requires it. We retain:

  • identity verification (KYC) records and verification results;
  • Transaction records, including amount, currency, purpose and beneficiary; and
  • related compliance and suspicious activity records.

These are kept for five (5) years from the later of the Transaction date or Account closure, as required by the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022 and applicable Central Bank of Nigeria regulations. After that period they are securely deleted or anonymised. For more detail, see our Privacy Policy.

How Long It Takes

We complete deletion requests within thirty (30) days of verifying your identity, as required by the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, unless a longer period is required by law, by an open investigation, or to resolve a dispute. When deletion is complete, we will confirm to the email address you contacted us from.
